A lifetime of protecting, building, leading, and helping others do the same.
The name Connect13 is personal. Connection has always mattered to me, and 13 was my badge number as a police officer.
I started in the United States Air Force, became a police officer, and later moved into technology. I co-founded Convercent, an enterprise software company, and served as its president. My career has also included CEO, board, and advisory roles.
Building and leading companies taught me about the gap between strategy and execution. It also made me clearer about the work I’m most drawn to: difficult problems and people willing to have honest conversations about them. I care about what actually works.
The older I get, the more I think about another responsibility as well: What do we do with what we have learned?
I believe leadership is stewardship. At some point, experience should become useful to someone else. That is why I continue to mentor, teach, write, and work with leaders who are building the next version of themselves and their organizations.
My own life has required reinvention more than once. The titles changed. The environments changed. The challenges changed. But I have come to believe that reinvention does not require becoming someone else. It requires understanding more clearly who you are, what life has taught you, and what the next season is asking of you.
That is the work I am most interested in now. Helping good people see clearly. Helping leaders make better decisions. Helping organizations align what they say matters with where they actually put their time, people, and money. And continuing to learn along the way.
